New mission of the Girona 500
The anglers’ brotherhoods from the three Girona ports, Roses, Palamós and Blanes, have joined in order to start up a plan to recover the lobster population.
In connection with this plan, this November, we board the vessel “Sarmiento de Gamboa” together with the CSIC scientifics, in charge of the scientific supervision and evaluation of the mission.
From our side, we participated with our AUV Girona500, taking it to a depth of about 300 meters near the Palamós coast. The aim was to track the trajectory, identify the place where the crustacean it was supposed to be and collect the necessary data to evaluate the status of the lobster population.
