ABSTRACT
The study of marine habitats is a key component for understanding and managing ocean resources. These resources are becoming crucial to the world economy and the development of the human race. Currently, such studies face serious challenges, mainly resulting from the harshness and the hazard of the underwater environment.
The main goal of this project proposal addresses studying, designing and developing several image processing techniques to enhance visibility in underwater environments. The specific objectives of this project are: (i) underwater stereo imaging joinly using a high-resolution stereo camera and the AIRIS sonar camera, (ii) a robust underwater image/video enhancement technique and (iii) a highly detailed map of the seafloor.
