ViCOROB rep la visita d’un equip d’investigadors del Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering

ViCOROB es consolida com un model a seguir a nivell internacional en l’àmbit de la robòtica i la visió submarina. Un equip d’investigadors coreans visiten Girona per a formar-se i aprendre de l’experiència a la Universitat de Girona.   El Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) es va fundar l’any 1973 i és un dels desenvolupadors líder del seu país en tecnologia relacionada amb l’enginyeria oceànica. El seu objectiu és fer recerca aplicada per resoldre les necessitats del mercat nacional i internacional. L’equip de la Universitat de Girona guanya el Grand Challenge de la competició europea de robòtica euRathlon 2015

L’equip integrat per la Universitat de Girona (UdG) en la part marina, Cobham d’Ostfildern (Alemanya) en la terrestre i ISEP/INESC TEC Aerial Robotics de Porto (Portugal) en la aèria, van guanyar el Grand Challenge de la competició de robòtica europea euRathlon.   L’euRathlon és la primera competició de robòtica internacional on robots terrestres, aeris i marins cooperen en un escenari realista per tal de desenvolupar i testejar la tecnologia enfocada a la preparació per a fer front a una situació catastròfica (terratrèmol, explosió,…). La competició, inspirada en l’actuació de rescat que es va fer després del desastre de Fukushima, aquest any ha arribat a la seva culminació. Finançada per la Comissió Europea, progressivament, al llarg dels anys, ha anat promovent la participació d’equips de diferents àmbits de la robòtica. We attend the second Annual Catalan Meeting on Computer Vision (ACMCV)

The second Annual Catalan Meeting on Computer Vision (ACMCV) was held on the 18th of September in Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona. ACMCV was created with the aim of strengthen the network between computer vision researchers in Catalunya. As it is well known, Catalunya has a large community working in the computer vision field, both in the industry and the academia. Thus, this meeting is intended to get to know the people working in the field as well as their recent developments.   The event contained several activities, including a poster session, where the four members of Vicorob (Nuno Gracias, Josep Bosch, Konstantin Korotkov and Ricard Campos) presented their latest works. The meeting also held the Master thesis’ presentations of the students of the Master in Computer Vision of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, as well as several interesting talks on topics such as the application of machine learning techniques…

Construint robots submarins al CIRS

Al llarg d’aquesta setmana té lloc el campus PRESUB on joves de tota la província venen a conèixer de primera mà com és un robot submarí i, és més, fins i tot en construeixen un! La iniciativa del departament d’Arquitectura i Tecnologia de Computadors de la UdG ja ha arribat a la tercera edició i està éssent tot un èxit.   L’objectiu bàsic d’aquests tallers és la realització d’activitats científico-tecnològiques de caire lúdic que resultin interessants i atractives que permetin incrementar el interès de la societat, i més concretament dels estudiants de secundària, per la tecnologia i que fomentin els valors propis de l’enginyeria. IFAC NGCUV 2015 takes place in Girona

From 28-30th of April 2015, Girona Underwater Vision and Robotics team moved to Hotel Carlemany to organize IFAC NGCUV 2015 conference. The event took place in the nice city of Girona and counted on more than 90 attendees from 22 different countries.   NGCUV goal is to show the latest investigations in Unmanned Underwater Vehicles as well as to promote the exchange of information and perspectives on the field’s current research. The Workshop brings together a diverse set of researchers who are jointly committed to foster the research and innovation in underwater robotics. WE ATTEND THE EUROPEAN ROBOTICS FORUM IN VIENNA

Last week we participated actively in European Robotics Forum that took place in the beautiful city of Vienna (Austria). There, besides meeting with researchers in robotics field in Europe, we had the chance to participate in the Entrepreneurial Workshop (in the framework of ROCKeu project) and to attend presentations on various projects on our field.   In the event, the main representatives of euRobotics platform where chosen. They will be the team that might contribute to the definition of H2020 robotics policies along 2015. Next year, the meeting point will be Ljubjana in Slovenia.   The University of Girona, together with other European 207 institutions and companies, is a member of the platform. euRobotics AISBL (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif) is a Brussels based international non-profit association for all stakeholders in European robotics. euRobotics builds upon the success of the European Robotics Technology Platform (EUROP) and the academic network of EURON, and will not…

ROBOCADEMY PROJECT MEETING IN GIRONA

During the last days of January (28-30.1.2015) Girona was the venue of the project meeting as well as the first workshop of the ROBOCADEMY – “European Academy for Marine and Underwater Robotics”, FP7-PEOPLE-2013-ITN, project. Starting with the project meeting on the 28th, which was first of a kind for the vast majority of the fellows, gave all involved a good opportunity to get acquainted and the fellows the opportunity to present their projects and current progress to the rest of the peers and their supervisors. Additionally, future scientific trainings and minor organizational questions were addressed rounding a successful meeting. For the following two days, 10 fellows of the ROBOCADEMY project participated in the training event (NT2 – Autonomous Underwater Robotics) taught by Dr. Pere Ridao, Dr. Marc Carreras, Dr. Narcis Palomeras and Carles Candela. Rafael Garcia delivers a plenary talk at INT-NAM 2014

Rafael Garcia has delivered today the plenary lecture “3-D Mapping for the Characterization of the Seafloor using an Underwater Robot” as “keynote speaker”on the 2nd International Symposium on Maritime and Naval Architecture which takes place on October 23-24 in Istanbul, Turkey. In his keynote lecture, Dr. Garcia presented the latest advances and conclusions of the MICINN MUMAP project regarding the development of systems for seafloor monitoring.

L’equip de la Universitat de Girona amb el seu robot submarí  Sparus II AUV es proclama vencedor de la competició euRathlon   L’SPARUS II AUV, un robot autònom submarí desenvolupat al CIRS, es va proclamar campió a la competició europea en robòtica submarina euRathlon celebrada la setmana passada (29/9-3/10/14) a La Spezia, Itàlia.   euRathlon és una competició europea de robòtica submarina on hi competeixen diferents equips amateurs i on es plantegen reptes d’aplicació real del camp de la robòtica submarina. FP7 European Project MORPH: next generation of underwater robotics for ocean exploration tested in the Azores

From 8 to 18 September 2014, the Center of IMAR of the University of the Azores is hosting the sea trials of a new type of robotics-based distributed sensor system, aimed at affording marine scientists and commercial operators a revolutionary tool for marine habitat mapping in complex 3D environments. The tests are being performed in the scope of the EC research project MORPH, entitled Marine Robotic System of Self-Organising, Logically Linked Physical Nodes.   Launched in February 2012, the 4-year research project MORPH is partly funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme with a budget of 8,5 million Euros.
